Northampton Retail Crime Intiative

The Northampton Retail Crime Initiative (NRCI) was created in July 2001 to tackle the problems of retail crime in the centre of Northampton Town. Since then it has evolved and expanded into a brilliant example of how a community can reduce retail crime through positive proactive policing and partnership work.

The NRCI was originally set up following the publication by the Home Office of a document entitled "Community Crime Reduction Partnerships: The Retail Contribution". This document identified the growing problems of retail crime and made a number of recommendations. The NRCI was the product of those recommendations and has now developed into an internationally recognized award winning scheme that has been successfully operating for over six years.

The NRCI is perhaps best known for the Exclusion Order Scheme it operates against persistent retail crime offenders (shoplifting, fraud & anti social behaviour). There is, however, so much more to the NRCI...
